Department of Assamese

About the Department:

The Department of Assamese at M.N.C.B.M. is a prominent institution within Nalbari district, boasting a rich history since its establishment in 1979. Over its 45 year journey, it has been graced by the presence and contributions of numerous esteemed figures in Assamese language, literature, and culture, including Mr. Ganesh Chandra Barman, Dr. Naranarayan Sarma, Dr. Utchab Chandra Deka, Dr. Leena Deka, and Dr. Paresh Nath Sarma, among others. Students of the department consistently excel, with many prominent scholars of Assam having graduated from here. The department\'s mission is to foster a deep understanding and appreciation of Assamese language, literature, and culture, actively working towards their preservation and development. Currently, the department is led by Dr. Manima Bhuyan as HOD, supported by a dedicated faculty consisting of Dr. Hiramani Talukder, Dr. Niharika Moran, Bihuram Engleng and Parna Medhi.

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

To be a leading center of excellence in the study, preservation, and promotion of Assamese language, literature, and culture, fostering intellectual growth, cultural awareness, and critical thinking among students, and contributing to the enrichment of the Assamese linguistic and literary heritage.

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

• The Mission of the department is to help students build knowledge and understanding of Assamese language, literature and culture.
• Department of Assamese, M.N.C.B.M always working towards nourishment, preservation and development of Assamese language, literature and culture.
• To encourage innovative research in Assamese language, literature, and allied fields, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and understanding of Assam’s cultural diversity.
• To engage with local communities, fostering a sense of pride and belonging in the Assamese identity through outreach programs, workshops, and cultural events.




Facilities of the Department:

1. Along with the B.A. course, our department offers Add-on courses to help students gain practical skills for the real world.

2. The department has a wall magazine named "Xako" and a departmental journal called "Prajna", where students can contribute their writings. These platforms help enhance students\' writing and critical thinking abilities.

3. The department integrates digital teaching methods. We have an AI-enabled digital flatboard, which allows us to deliver knowledge in a clearer and more engaging way using modern technology.

4. The department regularly organizes seminars, online lecture series, day celebrations, symposiums, group discussions, and various co-curricular activities, all designed to foster the overall development of students.

5.We also have a departmental library with lending facilities.
